This is an EASY project that uses materials most people have at home. Paper/ styrofoam


 plates are cheap as is tissue paper. My lil guy LOVES his wreath and is displaying it proudly


 on our front door. Grab these basic supplies and craft with your kiddos!!! Great memories


 are sure to come out of it!!





 1. Paper or styrofoam plate. Using something round and cut a hole in the center.








 2. cut lil squares from green tissue paper... glue centers to plate.


 




3. tear little pieces of red tissue paper and roll into balls.




4. Glue balls on green "leaves" 
..
 5. make a bow and using wire or pipe cleaner, tie bow to pipe cleaner or wire.

GREAT way to send a lil Christmas cheer and a photo of your child to a loved one. This is an


 easy project that requires only a few supplies. This can be altered to use any shape and can


 be added to for a fuller wreath. Limitless possibilities!!




Punch or Cut with your Cricut.. 3 different sized squares... or whatever shape you would like.( 


24 total) this will be 6 of each kind and 3 of each color. Assemble by alternating color pieces


 and gluing them together at 90 degree intervals.( OR.. Use a hole punch and a brad and brad


 them together as I did) Punch a 1/16th hole ( hole punch) at both top corners. Using your 


Cricut, punch, or even hole punch.. punch out 9 red 1/4" circles and 3 red 1/2 " circles. In the


 center of the layered scallops ( squares above) , glue 3 grouped 1/4" red circles. Place it on


 every other one. Next, glue the 1/2" circles to the center of the other scalloped squares. Add


 little highlight to the circles with a white pen. Add a photo and then tie a bow.. Ta Da... What a


 GREAT gift for anyone!! ( This can be altered so many different ways by adding more layers,


 different shapes and colors)

I cut the chipboard with my baroque die and bigshot. glue on the paper add lace around the baroque. I use my MS score board to make my paper flower for the middle & flower lace with the chipboard letter.  I cut out some die cut from the paper stack and add them with popdots.then to hange the banner i use ribbon..

A Special Memory and Birthday by Rosemary Cooper.....

Hello everyone my name is Rosemary and welcome to the blog as one of the guests here
on Ohh La La Vintage Treasures. My blog is about Christmas Décor over the years. Many things
have changed over the years and even some of those things are still around or are becoming
popular again. 50 years ago, today, I was born and now as I turn the Vintage age I am sitting
here having flashbacks to my childhood. I am laughing at the things that have changed and the
things we had growing up that are coming back as popular items. Such as a Silver Christmas
Trees, Barbie Dolls, Santa Claus figures, or many others vintage items just to mention a few.
Growing up we had a fake Christmas tree which was silver and the limbs were made of metal.

The lights back then didn’t go on the tree because of a fire hazard. So we always used a thing
called a Color Wheel to bring out the colors. I remember my parents taking each metal limb out
of a sleeve and attaching it to the tree. Now that tree is popular again and people are buying
them from places like E-bay. In fact I looked one up the other day and it was on EBay for $245.
Barbie is another thing we had growing up. My cousin gave me a Barbie from 1959 and as kids
back then the thing to do was pass them onto the next cousin since I had no sisters. Now I wish
I would have kept her since she is still around. My daughter always played with them when
she was growing up. Santa Claus figures were popular growing up and I still have the one that
I had as a kid that is now called vintage. I look back at things and they all bring back beautiful
memories of my childhood which is why I am so obsessed with the Vintage Santa scrapbook
items. Thank you for letting me go back to memory lane and celebrate my Vintage Birthday
today.

On The 3rd Day of Christmas My Crafty Friend Gave to Me......




A Christmas Decor Idea by Patti Carrow

When Christmas decorating in my house I love to bring the outdoors inside. This shelf hangs in my living room and is very long, so I came up with this idea several years ago and I do it every year. Every year it looks different too! You can do this on a fireplace mantel or on top of a cabinet too. Here is how to create this display.....

Things you will need

lots of tree branches random sizes

2-3 cans of cheap white spray paint (Walmart $.98 a can)

1 can of  Krylon Champagne Nouveau color metallic spray paint

pine garland ( fake or real)

pine cones

1- strand of Christmas Tree Lights

ornaments of your choice

First you are going to spray paint the branches with the white spray paint making sure you completely cover the branch. Next take the metallic spray paint and do a real light coat just to add a little sparkle to the branches.

 Now do the same to the pine cones.

 Make sure you are  in a well ventilated area when you are using spray paint!

When your branches are dry you can arrange them on the shelf to your taste.

 Next add the pine garland and lights.

Now all you have to do is add the pine cones and some decorations. Remember that less is more with this kind of decorating. You do not want to cover up the branches completely because it will defeat the whole idea of bringing the outside in. I used some silk roses, clear glittered snowflakes, and some small silver Christmas bulbs. I will be adding my collection of angel statues as soon as I dig them out!

You will need the petal template to make these. This is a downloadable PDF file and you can down load it here

Tools:

• Hole punch
• Pencil

10"x50" white vinyl flashing (#233813)

1/4" threaded post screws (#137870)

• Step 1: Print and cut out our downloadable petal templates.
  
  Step 2: Trace the petals on the matte side of the flashing six times each and cut these shapes out. You should have six large flashing petals and six small ones.
  
  Step 3: Gently fold the flashing petals in half with the shiny side up, then tightly crease half the length of the fold as shown in the video.
  
  Step 4: Punch a hole in the unfolded ends of the petals, about a half-inch from the tip. 
  
  Step 5: Thread the six large petals onto the thicker half of a threaded post, then do the same with the small petals. Gently tighten. 
  
  Step 6: Fan out the petals to get an arrangement you like, then tighten all the way to hold them in place.
  
  Optional: For a little extra bling, hot-glue an ornament to the center of the poinsettia.
  
  All that’s left is to display your latest creation. We tied fishing line around the threaded posts and hung our poinsettias on a stair railing, but feel free to display them anywhere.

A Creative Baking Idea and Some Packaging

Welcome to the 12 days of Christmas here at Ooh La La Vintage Treasures! This is the 2nd day of this awesome journey through 12 days of fun and exciting projects, decor ideas, baking and etc....

I thought I would show you a really quick and easy gift to share with your family and friends this holiday season.

Chocolate Covered Pretzels

1bg (12ozs) of candy coating chocolate

Pretzels

Candy Canes

Sugar Sprinkles

Double Boiler or Microwave Safe Bowl

Fork

Hammer or Kitchen Mallet

Wax Paper

A creative mind..lol

The first thing you will need to do is to place your chocolate in the double boiler or microwave safe bowl. If you are using a double boiler please set your stove top temp on medium low. Stirring the chocolate pieces constantly so the chocolate doesn't burn. If you use a microwave safe bowl, please only microwave at a minute. If you find that the chocolate doesn't melt while stirring it please place in the microwave for 30 more seconds. Try not to over cook the chocolate, you don't want to burn the chocolate.

While you are waiting for the chocolate to melt, place your candy canes (2 or 3) on wax paper and then place another sheet over top of them. Take your hammer or kitchen mallet and gently break the canes into small pieces.

After the chocolate is melted, dip your pretzels into the chocolate. I used large pretzel sticks in this project and how i got the chocolate to cover half way up the stick was by using a fork. I sat the stick down into the chocolate and used my fork to bring the chocolate up onto the sides of the stick. After you get all the chocolate onto the pretzels, it's time to decorate! Before I placed my sticks onto the wax paper to dry I dipped them into the broken candy canes and rolled it to coat all the sides. You can pinch some of the broken candy canes and sprinkle them over your small pretzels too ;)

I then took some green sugar sprinkles and lightly sprinkled over all the pretzels for a festive look!

After the pretzels were dry I bagged up my large pretzel sticks to show you an easy way to give them as a gift. The smaller pretzels were eaten by my son...lol..before I had a chance to take pictures.

Using very inexpensive items I took a simple candy bag and dressed it up for the holiday and now its ready to be given away! These would not only be great for family and friends but for teacher gifts as well.

Here is a recipe for homemade bath salts that you can add to your bottle to make it an extra special gift for someone special!




 Bath Salts Recipes -

• epsom salts or sea salt, or both
• food coloring
• 1 or 2 teaspoons of glycerin per jar - optional, but glycerin is an effective skin moisturizer and a nice addition
• essential oils - mandarin orange, lavender, sandlewood, and patchouli

General Instructions:
1. Collect your jars, remove labels, then wash and dry thoroughly.

2. For most bath salts recipes you can use your choice of epsom salts or sea salt, or a combination of these. I used to like adding a tablespoon or two of baking soda as well, until I read about jars of bath salts that had exploded because of baking soda reacting to moisture inside the jar. One good mix is one cup of epsom salts, with 1/4 cup of sea salt but a little more or less of each ingredient is fine for most bath salts. Epsom salts and sea salt are soothing for tired muscles, while both will gently soften the water for a luxurious bath experience. You could also add a tablespoon or two of finely ground regular oatmeal (not quick cooking) for silky, skin-softening water.

3. Fill each jar to the top with the combination of bath salts that you plan to use. Empty the salts into a mixing jar and add a drop or two of glycerin, if using. Add your choice of essential oil - how many drops you use is a personal preference, but start with two or three drops and see if you like the fragrance. The same goes for the liquid food coloring; sometimes I use quite a few drops of food color to get the strong hue that I like, but so far it hasn't stained the bath tub or anyone's skin. Remember that the color and fragrance will be much diluted in the bath water. Stir the salts vigorously until all ingredients are thoroughly combined.

Happy Holidays everyone! Today I want to share with you a couple recipes for Chocolate Chip Muffins (an easy version and one from scratch). Then I will show you how to serve it in a festive manner to guests during holiday get togethers.

From Scratch

Chocolate Chip Muffins 1 1/4 cups all-purpose flour 1/2 cup unsweetened cocoa powder 1/2 teaspoon baking powder 1/2 teaspoon baking soda 1/2 teaspoon fine salt 2 large eggs 4 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted 1/2 cup dark brown sugar 3/4 cup milk 1 tablespoon vegetable oil 2 teaspoons pure vanilla extract 1 cup semisweet chocolate chips Serving suggestions: strawberry jam Special Equipment: 12 (1/2-cup) capacity muffin tin, paper muffin liners, cooking spray Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F. Line the muffin tin with paper liners and lightly coat with cooking spray. (This may seem like overkill, but otherwise the muffins will stick.) Whisk the flour, cocoa, baking powder, baking soda and salt in a medium bowl. In another medium bowl, lightly whisk the eggs, then whisk in the butter, brown sugar, milk, oil and vanilla. Quickly fold the wet ingredients into the dry with a rubber spatula. Just before the batter comes together, fold in the chocolate chips—don’t mix the batter too much or the muffins will be tough. Divide the batter among the muffin cups (1/4 cup of batter per muffin). Bake until a tester inserted in the center comes out clean, about 25 minutes. Turn the muffins out of the tins, cool on a rack.

Easy Version

Chocolate Chip Muffins

1 18-ounce package chocolate cake mix 1 small package (4 servings) chocolate instant pudding 4 eggs 1/4 cup oil 1/2 cup water 1 cup sour cream 1 cup chocolate chips 1/2 teaspoon vanilla Suggest Edits In a large bowl mix the chocolate cake mix with the dry chocolate pudding mix, eggs, oil, water, vanilla and sour cream until well incorporated. Gently fold in the chocolate chips. Lightly grease muffin pan(s) with spray grease -- or line with muffin papers -- and fill each muffin cup 3/4 of the way full. Bake the muffins at 350 degrees for approximately 30 minutes for jumbo muffins, 15 minutes for regular muffins, or 10 minutes for mini muffins. Insert a toothpick into the middle of a muffin and remove. If the toothpick comes out clean, the muffins are ready. If not, bake them for another minute or two and check again. Remove the muffins from the oven and pan, then allow them to cool for 15 minutes before serving.

To Make Christmas Tree (will have a You Tube video showing this)

1 chocolate chip muffin

Cool Whip (I suggest just using Cool Whip as it is stiff and can withstand the weight of the muffin)

1 Hershey Kiss

Green Sugar Sprinkles

Cut top of muffin slightly so when inverted it will sit flat. Cut the muffin into 3 slices. You will be inverting the entire muffin. Start by placing the largest piece on the plate, top with cool whip, add next section of muffin and top with more Cool Whip, then and the last piece of muffin and top with Cool Whip. Sprinkle with sugar sprinkles and top with wrapped Hershey’s Kiss. Serve.

A Gift Idea: Potholder Recipe Book

Holiday Pot Holder Recipe Book (Will have a You Tube video showing this)

Supplies Needed

2 potholders

6 extra large eyelets

Crop-a-dile

Corner rounder (optional)

2 binder rings

Chipboard

Cardstock and patterned paper

Ribbon

Adhesive (paper glue or sticky strip)

Recipe cards (I used Stampin Up Recipe card stamps for mine)

Embellishments

Punch two holes in each pot holder on the side for binding. Insert eyelets in each. Punch 1 hole in each pot holder opposite from binding and add eyelets to each (for closure). Cut chipboard into 6 x 6 pieces for each page you want to have. Cover with cardstock on both sides and corner round all four corners (optional), For each page (front and back) you will need four 1 x 6 inch strips of patterned paper. Add adhesive to three sides of each strip (both 1 inch sides and 1 6 inch side) to create a pocket for recipe card. Adhere strip to chipboard page. Mine were placed at 2 ¼” and 5” (refer to photo or video) You will need to measure the distance depending on the size of your recipe cards. Punch holes in each page add binder rings to pot holders and pages. Add ribbons to eyelets that will be used for closure. (it is necessary to have some sort of closure so that pot holder recipe book can be hung from hook in kitchen) Embellish as desired.
